차세대 에너지 분야 유망 창업기업의 현장 애로기술 지원

한국나노기술원(원장 서광석)은 융합혁신지원단 활동을 통해 시스템장비분야 소부장 기업의 현장 문제 해결을 적극 지원하겠다고 밝혔다.

산업통상자원부와 한국산업기술진흥원(KIAT)이 운영하는 융합혁신지원단은 39개 공공 연구기관이 보유하고 있는 기술·인프라·인력 등 다양한 자원을 활용하여 소재·부품·장비 분야 기술력 향상을 지원하는 공공 연구기관 협의체다.

한국나노기술원은 앞서 '22년 융합혁신지원단 우수기관'으로 지정, 22년 기업지원 대표 우수사례로 차세대 에너지 소재 개발 전문기업 '비이아이랩㈜'을 선정했다.

전기차 및 유인드론 등 차세대 에너지 소재 개발 전문기업인 비이아이랩(대표자 배창득)은 독자적인 계면 코팅 기술을 보유한 국내 유일 스타트업으로, 배터리 안정성 향상 및 성능 개선 확인을 위한 '이차전지 전극 개발용 표면처리 분석' 기술애로 지원(컨설턴트: 최영수 시험분석실장)을 통해 기술개발 방향을 구축하고, 리튬 금속의 초기 표면 및 소재의 안정성을 개선하여 배터리 제품 적용 가능성을 확인했다.

더불어 기술역량이 부족한 초기 창업기업의 핵심기술 확보를 위해 한국나노기술원의 원자층 증착장치, 적외선 스마트 저울 등 특허 기술이전을 추진하고 기업지원실의 지속적인 모니터링을 통해 후속 기술사업화 지원(A/S) 및 시장경쟁력 확보를 지원했다.

지원을 통해 비이아이랩은 Pre A, Series A 등 약 160억원 규모의 투자유치에 성공했으며, 핵심 특허기술 14건 확보 및 중기부 소부장 스타트업 100, 중기부 초격차 스타트업 1000+(미래 모빌리티 분야)에 선정되는 등 우수한 성과를 기록했다. 또한 1인 기업으로 시작하여 최근 1년간 17명의 신규인력을 채용하는 등 회사 규모도 점차 늘려 나가고 있는 중이다.

한국나노기술원 관계자는 “수도권 유일의 국가 나노인프라로, 융합혁신지원단 활동을 통해 기업 내부에서 해결할 수 없는 애로사항 해결을 지원하고, 더불어 소부장 기업의 도약을 위한 전주기적 지원을 아끼지 않을 계획이다”라고 전했다.

한편 한국나노기술원은 지난해 소부장 융합혁신지원단 기술지원사업을 통해 △수소센서 성능평가를 위한 기술 자문 △다층기판을 이용한 멀티레이어 적층 배선 기술 지원 △바이오 센서 응용을 위한 초소형 MEMS force 센서 개발 △차세대 질화갈륨 기반 전력반도체 에피소재 개발 및 MOCVD 장비 구축 관련 기술지원 등 31건의 현장 기술애로 사항을 해결했다.

KANC Department Head Opens Convergence Innovation Support Group for Next-generation Energy Startups

Providing support for promising companies in the field with on-site technical support for promising startups in the next-generation energy industry

Seo Gwang-seok, director of the Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center, or KANC, announced that he would actively support problem-solving for companies in the system equipment field through the activities of the Convergence Innovation Support Group.

The Convergence Innovation Support Group, operated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), utilizes the technological infrastructure manpower held by 39 public research institutes.

This group is a consultative body that supports technological improvement in the field of materials, components, and equipment by utilizing various resources such as research institutes.

KANC has previously been designated as an excellent institution for convergence innovation support for 22 years and has developed next-generation energy materials to become a prominent example of business support.

The specialized company BEI Lab was one of those selected.

Bae Chang-deuk, CEO of BI Lab, a company that works towards the development of next-generation energy materials for electric and self-driving vehicles, specializes in proprietary interfacial coating technology.

As the only startup selected, it uses consultations to help solve technical difficulties in surface treatment analysis for secondary battery electrode development to improve battery stability and performance.

Through Choi Young-soo, head of the Test and Analysis Department, BEI Lab established the direction for its technology development and confirmed the possibility of applying its technology to battery products to improve the surface of the metal and aid in material stability.

To secure core technologies for early-stage start-ups that lack technological capabilities, the group promoted the transfer of patented technologies such as atomic layer deposition devices and infrared smart scales from KANC, and supported follow-up technology commercialization support and helped to secure market competitiveness through ongoing monitoring through the Corporate Support Office.

This support has helped BEI Lab to succeed in attracting around 16 billion won in investment, as well as including Pre A Series A, and secured 14 core patented technologies. BEI Lab was selected as one of the 100 designated startups by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and as a 1000 Super Gap Startups of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in the field of future mobility. In addition, the company that began as a solo enterprise has been growing, hiring 17 new employees in the past year.

A KANC official stated that as the only nano-related infrastructure in the Seoul metro area, issues that cannot be resolved within companies can be resolved through the Convergence Innovation Support Group.

KANC plans to continue support for problem-solving and full-cycle support for SMEs to take leaps forward.

Last year, the Convergence Innovation Support Project from KANC provided technical advice for hydrogen sensor performance evaluation, support for multi-layer stacked wiring technology using multi-layer substrates, development of ultra-small M force sensors for biosensor applications, next-generation nitriding, and resolved 31 technical difficulties in the field, including technical support related to gallium-based power semiconductor epitaxial material development and MOCVD equipment construction.
